How this site makes money
Plainly: some links on LivingTaiwan are affiliate links. If you book a hotel or flight through one, the booking platform pays this site a small commission. The price you pay does not change.
The specifics
- Hotel links may go through partners such as Booking.com or Agoda, and flight and hotel search may go through Kayak. When a link earns a commission, it is marked as sponsored in the page code and sits near a disclosure like the ones you see above every block of hotel picks.
- Commissions never decide recommendations. Plenty of places this site recommends, including night market stalls, free trails, and small local businesses, pay nothing and never will. Where a paid option is worse than a free one, the guide says so.
- Nobody pays to appear in a guide. There are no sponsored placements dressed up as picks, no press-trip reviews presented as regular stays, and no affiliate link for anything I would not book for my own family.
Why be this explicit
Because trust is the entire product. A travel site that shades its recommendations for commission is worthless to you, and a reader who cannot tell either way is right to assume the worst. So the policy is written down, the links are labeled, and if you ever find a placement that feels off, tell me directly.
